China Welcomes Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir at 2nd Belt and Road Forum

BEIJING – China welcomes the participation of Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad in the Second International Belt and Roads Cooperation Forum to be held in Beijing in late April, Xinhua news reported Wednesday.
Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi made the remarks Tuesday during a meeting with the secretary general of the Malaysian Foreign Ministry, Muhammad Shahrul, in Beijing for strategic talks between the two countries.
China appreciates the promotion of Asian values by Mahathir and Malaysia’s support for the Belts and Roads Initiative, Wang added, saying that he is fully confident in the future of bilateral relations.
Mahathir is eager to attend the second International Belt and Roads Cooperation Forum, Shahrul said, adding that this shows the side Malaysia attaches importance to and supports the Belts and Roads Initiative.
He also expressed the hope of the Malaysian side to intensify high-level exchanges and strengthen cooperation in various fields with China.
