ICC Announces Men’s, Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 Schedule

DUBAI, UAE – The International Cricket Council on Tuesday announced the schedule for Men’s and Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 which will be taking place in Australia.
The countdown to cricket’s most exciting tournament – ICC T20 World Cup 2020 has officially begun as the fixtures for the showpiece event were revealed on Tuesday. The tournament will be staged in Australia this time around. For the first time ever both the Men’s and Women’s T20 World Cups will be held as standalone events in the same year and in the same country. The finals of both the premier events will be played at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
While the top ten women’s teams from around the world will be taking part in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2020, a total of 16 men’s teams, who will contest for the ultimate trophy in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Both the tournaments will be marked by respective opening ceremonies.
The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup will begin on February 21, 2020, with the final being played on March 8.
Hosts and defending champions Australian women’s team will take on the Indian eves in the first match of the tournament.
Meanwhile, the Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 will be played from October 18 to November 15 later in the year. The opening encounter will see hosts Australia take on top-ranked team Pakistan at the SCG.
Both the tournaments will be played across 13 venues in Australia with as many as eight host cities.
The top eight ranked teams in the current ICC T20 rankings have directly qualified for the World Cup while Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, who are currently placed ninth and tenth in the ICC T20 rankings, are currently only the two known qualifiers who will take part in the First-round qualifiers of the men’s tournament. The remaining six teams will be decided via a qualifying tournament which will take place in 2019. Two teams each from Group A and Group B will make it to Super 12.
