Rouhani Urges US to Get Back to ‘Normal Conditions’

TEHRAN – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that the Islamic Republic can sit down at the negotiating table to solve any problem if the enemy returns to “normal conditions” and realizes that he had taken the wrong approach, Iran Front Page said Monday.
“The party that left the negotiating table and renounced an agreement should return to normal conditions,” Rouhani said on Sunday when addressing a group of academics and doctors in Tehran.
Otherwise, he added, Iran has no choice but to show resistance.
“I declare as a representative of the Iranian nation that in this period, and while the enemy does not regret his measures in the past, we have no choice but to show resistance,” he said.
However, Rouhani said that “if the enemy really realizes that he has taken the wrong and wrong approach, then we can sit down at the negotiating table and resolve any problems,” he added.
“The enemies sometimes say that they have conditions for negotiations with Iran … but in the last weeks they said they have no conditions.” “They threatened us as if they were a military superpower, but now they say they are not looking for a war,” he said describing the offer of talks without preconditions as a sign of Iran’s strength.
His comments came shortly after the US Secretary of State Mike Pomope, will be removed from the list of “basic requirements” of 12 points he had submitted as a prerequisite for a new agreement with Iran, and said on Sunday that Washington was prepared for unconditional talks.
“We are ready to start a conversation without preconditions. We are ready to sit down with them, “Pompeo told a news conference in Switzerland.
However, he added that the United States will continue working to curb Iran’s “evil activity”.
“The American effort to fundamentally reverse the malign activity of this Islamic Republic, this revolutionary force, will continue,” he said.
In response, Iran described the offer as a play on words and stressed that it expects a change in Washington’s overall approach to the Iranian nation.
“For the Islamic Republic of Iran, a play on words and expression of hidden goals under the guise of new words is not a criterion for action, but a change in the general approach of the United States and the practical position towards the Iranian nation is the criterion,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Seyyed Abbas Moussavi said.
Moussavi added: “The emphasis placed by Mr. Pompeo on the need to continue a campaign of maximum pressure on Iran is an indication of the persistence of the wrong approach of the past, which must be rectified.”
Speaking weeks after the US withdrawal from the JCPOA, Pompeo established 12 difficult conditions for any “new agreement” with Tehran.
Conditions included the withdrawal of Iranian military advisers from Syria, who have been helping the country’s legitimate government in its fight against terrorist attacks, which the United States and its Western and regional allies have helped and supported mostly.
