Turkey Calls on UN to Play a More Active Role in Kashmir

ISLAMABAD – Turkey on Sunday urged the United Nations to play a more active role in resolving the persistent dispute over Kashmir as part of its resolutions.
In a statement issued in Ankara, the Turkish Foreign Ministry welcomed the consultations held Friday by the UN Security Council on recent developments in the conflict in Jammu and Kashmir, KMS said.
The ministry also reiterated its wish that the dispute be resolved through dialogue between the concerned parties. She also called for calm and avoidance of unilateral measures that would exacerbate tensions.
Jammu and Kashmir has been facing a blockade of communication since 5 August, when India abandoned the special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
