Ghani Issues Decree to Dismiss Mohaqiq as Deputy CEO

KABUL – President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has issued a decree to dismiss Haji Mohammad Mohaqiq as second deputy to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Unity Government (NUG), the Administrative Office of the President said in a statement
As per the statement, Haji Mohammad Mohaqiq, has been dismissed as second deputy of CEO based on a presidential decree.
The statement further added that Mohaqiq has been dismissed as per the Article#13 and Item#64 of the Constitution of Afghanistan.
No further details have been given regarding the reasons surrounding the dismissal of Haji Mohammad Mohaqiq.
CEO Abdullah, on the other hand, has rejected President Ghani’s dismissal decree. A statement from CEO office has said that this decree is against the spirit of national unity and also against the terms of agreement that were agreed during the formation of NUG.
Haji Mohammad Mohaqiq is one of the influential figures and politicians in Afghanistan who is the leader of People’s Unity Party. He is also nominated as Second Vice President in Mohammad Haneef Atmar’s electoral ticket for the 2019 presidential polls.
