Gwadar Port to be Linked Through Afghanistan to Russia

ISLAMABAD – Gwadar port in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province will be connected through Afghanistan and Central Asia to Russia, a senior Pakistani military official revealed.
“Gwadar is going to be connected to Russia through Afghanistan and Central Asia. We see other regional ports as complementary to it,” the official said on Thursday.
Quetta Corps Commander Lt. Gen. Asim Saleem Bajwa, addressing an event on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, called Balochistan the victim of terrorism.
He said Pakistan had ultimately realized it had to manage its borders and started constructing a fence along Durand Line – a project opposed by Afghanistan.
Saudi Arabia had evinced an interest in investing $10 billion in CPEC, he said, adding Gwadar offered an opportunity to cut time and cost of logistics for trade in the region.
Balochistan’s chief minister, Jam Kamal, said Balochistan’s natural resources also offered opportunities to Afghanistan. CPEC can bring up new business ventures from China.
