KSA Rejects US Declaration Recognizing Israel’s Sovereignty Over the Golan Heights

RIYADH – Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has strongly rejected and condemned the US government’s statement to recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan, Asharq Al Awsat reported Tuesday.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has confirmed its firm and principled position on the Golan. It is an occupied Syrian Arab land, in accordance with international resolutions on the matter, and attempts to impose a fait accompli do not change the facts, reported the Saudi News Agency.
The Declaration of the Government of the United States of America is a flagrant violation of the Charter of the United Nations and the principles of international law, as well as relevant international resolutions, including Resolutions Nos. 242 (1967) and 497 (1981) of the Security Council, and will have significant negative consequences for the Middle East peace process, the security and stability of the region.
Saudi Arabia called on all parties to respect the resolutions of international legitimacy and the United Nations Charter.
According to the President of the Arab Parliament SPA, Mr. Mishaal bin Fahm Al-Salami, also flatly rejected the decision of President Donald Trump to recognize the sovereignty of the occupying Power (Israel) on the Syrian Golan.
For its part, Jordan said on Monday that the Golan Heights would remain a Syrian territory occupied by Israel, as affirmed by the relevant resolutions on international legitimacy, and urged all members of the international community to abide by these resolutions.
Following the unilateral decision of the United States to recognize Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights, Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said Jordan’s position was firm and clear by rejecting Israel’s annexation of Syrian territory and any unilateral decision likely to fuel tensions in the region.
