Large Protests Continue Across Algeria for 4th Friday

CAIRO, EGYPT – Large crowds turned out in the Algerian capital Algiers to protest against the government of ailing President Abdel Aziz Bouteflika for the fourth consecutive Friday.
Thousands of protesters gathered in front of the city’s historic main post office to press popular demands for a new political regime and the ouster of old-guard elements of the ruling Front de Liberation Nationale party.
Supporters of the protest were calling it a “million man march,” although it was clear from numerous videos that crowds had gathered in some areas while others remained empty.
Activists complained on Twitter that the government had cut public transportation links to the capital in order to lower the number of participants in the Friday protest.
The Reuters news agency reported that Algerian security forces were blocking roads to parliament and to government headquarters.
