KABUL – President Ashraf Ghani, in a meeting with the chairman of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom, emphasized on polio eradication in the country, President Palace said in a statement.
According to the statement by Presidential Palace, President thanked the WHO chairman Tedros Adhanom for his continuous support to health sector in Afghanistan, appreciated the good capacities that have come to the Afghan health sector, and inspiring step for the country’s future, particularly, for polio eradication which is a serious issue in Afghanistan.
“Despite the fact that international
NGOs have spent fund for polio eradication in Afghanistan, many children are
still suffering from this disease,” the statement added.
According to the statement, President Ghani asked WHO for more cooperation to improve child and women health in the country.
It is highlighted in the statement that WHO chairman assured organization’s continued support for eradication of polio in the country, considering it a priority for Afghanistan; and also assured continued cooperation in the health sector of the country.
