Modi Mocked for Waving at ‘Imaginary Friends’ in Srinagar

NEW DELHI – Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was mocked on social media as a video of him waving at seemingly no one went viral.
Modi visited Srinagar, Jammu and Leh on Sunday amid tight security to inaugurate various projects. Mobile phone and Internet services were suspended for the Indian premier’s visit and roads had been blocked.
During his stay, the Indian prime minister also took a boat ride to ‘inspect’ Dal Lake in Srinagar. The Bharitya Janata Party’s (BJP) official Twitter account shared a video of Modi’s Dal Lake trip and captured him waving from a boat.
However, social media users were puzzled as to who Modi was waving at as no people could be seen. While some such as former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti said Modi was waving at “imaginary friends” others claimed he was waving at “mountains”.
Social media users also pointed out that there were no people present owing to the strict security arrangements.
