OIC Calls to Help Drought-hit Afghanistan

JEDDAH – In order to help drought-hit Afghanistan, Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), on Monday, requested the member states and all the international relief organizations to urgently extend humanitarian help to Afghanistan.

In last several months, Afghanistan has been facing severe drought. The drought has left a large population in dire need of basic necessities and other emergency assistance.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has urged all member states to show solidarity with the people of Afghanistan.

The OIC General Secretariat’s appeal comes within the framework of the resolution on the “Situation of Afghanistan” adopted by the 45th session of the Conference of Foreign Ministers held in Dhaka in May 2018.

The resolution reiterated the organization’s commitment to providing all forms of support to mitigate the sufferings of the people of Afghanistan.

The UN estimates that over 275,000 people have been displaced by the drought in Afghanistan.
