OIC Emergency Meeting on Kashmir

ISLAMABAD – An emergency meeting of the contact group on Kashmir of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will be held Tuesday in Jeddah, according to Radio Pakistan.
The meeting is being held at the request of Pakistan, following the deterioration of the human rights situation in Kashmir following the Pulwama attack.
At the same time, the Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Raja Farooq Haider Khan, worried about the invitation of the Indian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sushma Swaraj, by the OIC to attend Foreign Minister’s conference in Abu Dhabi on Friday.
“The OIC represents the Islamic countries to discuss their own problems, but now it is opening its doors to non-Muslim countries that are mingling with their affairs,” he said in a statement.
The move came just days after a suicide car bomb attack which killed at least 40 members of the Indian security forces on 14 February.
A banned group, the Jaish-e-Muhammad group, claimed responsibility for the attack.
Shortly after the attack, Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan urged India to share all the evidence that could lead to action, and to cooperate fully in the investigation of the blast.
Amid heightened tension between his nuclear-armed neighbor, Pakistan’s army spokesman General Asif Ghafoor said Pakistan would react to any bad adventure from India.
