PAF is Preparing for the Arrival of Last JF-17 and JF-17B Fighters

ISLAMABAD – The last three JF-17 Thunder Block II multi-role combat aircraft from the Pakistani Air Force (PAF) Complex are expected to be delivered to the Pakistan Air Force by the end of June, the service at Jane’s announced Thursday.
The devices are part of an order placed by the PAF at the end of 2017 for 12 additional platforms currently on the final assembly line of the Aircraft Manufacturing Factory (AMF) division at PAC Kamra. AMF has built more than 100 JF-17s since the launch of the first JF-17 (number 09-111) in November 2009.
Production of the Block III variant is expected to begin later this year. PAF Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan told Jane’s that the service “will make a decision regarding one of the two new Chinese AESA radars that we are currently evaluating for these planes.” He said that, even though the assumption and costs will be decisive factors in the decision, the service hopes the plane will work with the new radar by March 2020.
The KLJ-7A radar of the Nanjing Electronics Research Institute is marketed by the China Electronics Technology Group (CETC) with air and liquid cooling options. The second candidate is the Leihua Electronic Technology Research Institute (LETRI), which offers an air-cooled AESA radar known as LKF601E.
According to the website, recently PAC Kamra and the Chinese company Chengdu Aircraft Industry Corporation (CAC), which co-developed the fighter, worked on two JF-17s each to develop work procedures.
Meanwhile, PAC Kamra’s aircraft repair plant (ARF) recently completed its first inspection after 1,000 hours on the first JF-17.
