Roadmap for Joint Pak-Afghan Religious Scholars Summit Finalized

KABUL – The roadmap for a joint meeting of Afghan and Pakistani religious scholars has been finalized, the High Peace Council (HPC) said on Thursday.
HPC spokesman, Ihsan Tahiri, who is in Islamabad as part of an Afghan delegation headed by HPC secretary, Omar Daudzai, told Sahar News that Daudzai had so far met a number of Pakistani religious and political leaders during his stay there.
Daudzai, also President Ashraf Ghani’s special representative for regional consensus on peace in Afghanistan, has been on a four-day visit to Pakistan to seek the neighboring country’s practical cooperation with Kabul in bringing peace to the war-torn country.
Tahiri said Daudzai had so far met with Jamiat-i-Ulema Islam (Fazl) chief Maulana Fazl Rahman, Awami National Party leader Asfandyar Wali Khan, Qaumi Watan Party chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, Council of Islamic Ideology chief Qibla Ayaz and others.
He said during his meetings with Islamic scholars, Daudzai insisted on a joint meeting of the Pakistani and Afghan ulema and both the sides agreed to the idea.
Tahiri said the joint religious scholars meeting should have been arranged long ago, but it did not happen due to lack of cooperation from the Pakistani side.
He said a roadmap for the joint sitting of the scholars had been finalized and practical measures in this regard would be taken through diplomatic channels.
He hoped the first cleric meeting would take place in coordination of the HPC on low level before a high-level meeting of the scholars was arranged.
