Rooney Expects Kane to Break His England Goals Record

LONDON – Wayne Rooney expects his place as England’s record scorer to be handed over to Harry Kane in the “next two or three years”, Sports 360 reported Friday.
Rooney scored 53 goals in England jersey, shattering Sir Bobby Charlton’s 49 goals.
But he thinks the current captain and Tottenham striker Kane, who already has 26 at 26, will overtake him as soon as possible.
“I never take goals for granted; I like to score them. Once I was 35 for England, I could feel the record getting closer,” he said.
“I do not think it will last 50 years, like Bobby Charlton, Harry Kane, maybe the next two or three years … He’s a fantastic striker and his record for England is fantastic.”
“When I got the record and went back for my last game, I said it would be an honor to go there and present it as if Bobby Charlton had presented it to me with the boot and I’m sure it will not be so long.”
Rooney, who arrived at the end of his time with DC United before returning to England with Derby, enjoyed watching England’s Gareth Southgate qualify for the Euro 2020 qualifiers.
Southgate seems able to turn its potential into price, which Rooney’s “Golden Generation” could not do.
However, Manchester United’s all-time leading scorer thinks that if current Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola led the team, things could have been different.
“I look at them (England) with enthusiasm and happiness when they win,” he said. “You look at our team 10 years ago and we can say that we had the best group of football players in the world.
“Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, Ashley Cole, (Steven) Gerrard, (Paul) Scholes, (Frank) Lampard, (David) Beckham, myself, Michael Owen – our team then, if we had a Guardiola with this group of players, we would have won everything, there is no doubt.
