Russia Interested in Buying a Drone from Iran: Iranian General

TEHRAN – An Iranian military official said Russia was interested in buying made in Iran drones, Iran’s front Page reported.
In a speech on the sidelines of the International Aviation and Space Exhibition in Russia (MAKS 2019), the Director of the Brigadier General of the Aeronautical Industry Organization (AIO) of Iran, Abdolkarim Banitarafi, said that Russia had offered to buy an unmanned aircraft from Iran.
Iran is one of the most advanced countries in the world of drones, he said, adding that Tehran exported unmanned aircraft to a number of foreign countries.
Banitarafi also noted that the Russian offer to buy Iranian drones should be evaluated and that the necessary licenses should be obtained for export.
Asked about plans to buy Sukhoi warplanes from Russia, the commander said Russia and China had offered to sell arms to Iran, adding that foreign arms deals would be taken as soon as Iran’s arms embargoes are lifted.
A United Nations arms embargo imposed on Iran will be lifted in October 2020, five years after the adoption of the Joint Global Action Plan (JCPOA).
The Iranian general has also unveiled plans for the joint production of training planes with one of the friendly countries.
Five Iranian exhibitors took part in MAKS 2019, which takes place at Zhukov sky International Airport near Moscow.
