Sanjay Leela Bhansali Looking Back At The Leading Ladies in His Films

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Deepika Padukone from larger-than-life sets to gripping storylines, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s films have it all. Over the years, the ace director has carved a niche for himself in the industry and every actor, no matter who wishes to be a part of his dreamy projects. The filmmaker is now gearing up for his next directorial, Inshallah. Earlier today, the flick’s leading actors Alia Bhatt and Salman Khan took to social media and made the official announcement.
Sharing the news, the 26-year-old actress revealed that she was 9-years-old when she first walked into the ace director’s office. She wrote, “I was 9 when I first walked into Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s office, all nervous and hoping and praying that I would be in his next film. It’s been a long wait.”
She then tweeted, “Dream with your eyes wide open they say & I did. Sanjay Sir and Salman Khan are magical together & I can’t wait to join them on this beautiful journey called Inshallah.”

Manisha Koirala: SLB made his directorial debut with Khamoshi: The Musical in 1996. The musical drama starred Salman Khan and Manisha in lead roles. Manisha garnered a lot of praise for her performance in the movie. Prior to this, Manisha had also starred in the movie 1942: A Love Story which was written by Bhansali.
Madhuri Dixit: In the 1989 film Parinda, SLB worked as an assistant director and Madhuri starred as the female lead. Then in 2002, the duo collaborated again for the film Devdas in which the actress played Chandramukhi. The romantic drama was based on the 1917 Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s novel of the same name.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: SLB’s second directorial Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999) starred Aishwarya alongside Salman and Ajay Devgn. After that Bhansali and Aishwarya teamed up again in 2002 for Devdas which featured Shah Rukh Khan as the male lead. The 2010 film Guzaarish marked the actress’ third collaboration with the ace director.
Rani Mukerji: Rani Mukerji starred in SLB’s 2005 directorial, Black. The film also starred Amitabh Bachchan and revolved around a deafblind girl (Rani), and her relationship with her teacher (Big B) who himself later develops Alzheimer’s disease.
Sonam Kapoor: In 2007, Sonam made her big Bollywood debut with Bhansali’s Saawariya. The romantic drama also marked Ranbir Kapoor’s debut and was based on Fyodor Dostoevsky’s short story White Nights. Interestingly, Rani did a cameo in the movie.
Deepika Padukone: The 2013 flick Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela marked Deepika and SLB’s first collaboration. After this, the duo teamed up again for the epic love saga, Bajirao Mastani. Bhansali’s last directorial, Padmaavat also starred the 33-year-old actress.
Priyanka Chopra: In Bhansali’s Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela, Priyanka wooed us with her killer moves in the song Ram Chahe Leela. She then played the role of Kashibai in the movie Bajirao Mastani which features Ranveer Singh as the male lead.
