MAZAR-E-SHARIF – Three militants affiliated with Taliban outfit were killed as their explosive device went off prematurely in Chamtal district of Balkh province on Thursday, an army spokesman in the province Abdul Hadi Jamal said Friday.
The militants, according to the official, were planting a mine on a road in Yangi Qala area of Chamtal district Thursday evening to target the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) convoy when it exploded early, killing all of them on the spot.
IEDs have been widely used by Taliban to target ANSF and NATO forces along the roads.
Taliban have not confirmed the incident so far.
