Turkey Ready to Accept Delivery of Russian S-400 Systems: Cavusoglu

HELSINKI – Turkey is ready to accept the delivery of the S-400 missile system as soon as Russia is ready to deliver them, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Friday.
“As soon as Russia is ready to deliver them to us, we will be ready to accept them,” he told reporters in response to the question of whether the first deliveries could take place in July.
The announcement of the Russian-Turkish talks on the purchase of S-400 systems was made for the first time in November 2016. The Russian side confirmed that the contract was signed on September 12, 2017.
Meanwhile, the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that Ankara had made a down payment. Turkey will become the first NATO member state to buy an air defense weapon of this class from Russia.
US authorities have warned that Turkey’s contract to buy Russia’s S-400 missile systems would seriously undermine bilateral relations and result in unilateral US sanctions against Ankara.
Earlier, the Pentagon had indicated that to stay in the F-35 fighter plan program, Turkey had to abandon the purchase of Russian S-400 missile defense systems.
