Turkey Refuses to Cancel The Purchase of S-400

ANKARA – Turkey has rejected a US offer to cancel the purchase of S-400 missiles from Russia, the Russian news agency Sputnik reported on Sunday.
According to the report, an American delegation visited Turkey earlier this week and tried to convince Ankara to give up the purchase of Russian missile systems.
However, the Turkish authorities rejected the offer, as it did not include a reduction in the price fixed or transfer of technology.
The United States has recently approved the sale of $ 35 billion of missiles to Turkey.
This decision is seen as a step against Turkey’s purchase of Russia’s S-400 ballistic missile defense system, which has long been a matter of contention between Turkey and its allies, particularly United States.
Military experts are concerned that the deployment of S-400 will jeopardize the safety of Allied weapon systems, particularly F-35 aircraft and radar installations.
A spokesman for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said several weeks ago that the purchase of US missiles by Turkey will not affect its agreement on the acquisition of rival Russian S-400 missiles.
The US Patriot sales process does not affect the S-400 process. We do not consider one as an alternative to another, said spokesman Ibrahim Kalin.
Turkish officials have previously said that they need the S-400 missile defense system and have repeatedly stressed that Ankara would buy systems from allies if they sold them.
Turkish media announced that the first delivery from Russia would be in 2019.
