US-Taliban Negotiations Make Headway on Key Issues

KABUL – American and Taliban negotiators make headway on key issues as they are expected to continue talks on a timetable for the pullout of US forces from Afghanistan, a media report said on Friday.
The two sides are also said to have inched closer towards more discussions on a ceasefire, The News International quoted diplomatic sources as saying in a report from Doha.
On the fourth day of negotiations with US special envoy Zalmay Khalilzad, the Taliban reportedly sought a time frame for the withdrawal of American forces.
For its part, the US delegation renewed its call for an immediate truce. “The representatives of Taliban have shown flexibility on the peace process,” the newspaper reported.
Meanwhile, unnamed Pakistani diplomats voiced concern that some neighboring countries might try to scuttle the ongoing Afghan peace talks.
