Use of Airpower by USAF in Afghanistan Remains High

KABUL – The release of munitions by the US Air Force (USAF) over Afghanistan remained at a high level in November 2018, according to US Air Forces Central Command (AFCENT).
Recently released data by AFCENT shows that USAF aircraft (manned and unmanned) released 841 munitions during that month as part of Operation ‘Freedom’s Sentinel’ and the NATO-led ‘Resolute Support’ mission in the Central Asian country: 72 more than in the previous month and 489 more than in September 2017.
The intensified use of air power is part of a military campaign launched in November 2017 by US and Afghan forces that is aimed at destroying the revenue sources, training facilities, and support networks of militant groups operating in Afghanistan, including the Taliban and the Daesh groups.
Though airstrikes have generated controversies by causing civilians casualties in Afghanistan, they have remained US’s top priority in their offensive strategy.
